Thinking about picking up the new Alexa with the screen that ships at the end of the month. Anyone have an Alexa already - any thoughts, likes, dislikes, etc?

What do you intend to use it for?

In the kitchen - recipes, music, radio, and streaming TV (I can't imagine Netflix not getting supported at some point on top of whatever they have at launch).

We have an iPad in the kitchen now and use it for all those things now, but it's kind of dying a slow death, so looking at a replacement, the Alexa seems to make more sense.

I have the dot. It's ok but could definitely live without it. I'll probably replace it with Homepod because I use Apple Music, not Amazon. It's ok for controlling the TV and managing shopping lists etc.

For music, we generally use Amazon Music and iHeartRadio for our local radio stations. We have all our personal music on iTunes, but really rarely use it any longer.

The HomePod will be a better speaker, but I doubt their Siri functionality will be any good.

They just need to release the same features as in the US and add GSuite support :tantrum:

Set up the Echo last night (no screen, couldn't resist the 50% off Prime Day deal). Impressed so far both with the speaker quality (I guess I'm not an audiophile as it is supposedly not "great", but sounds good to me) as well as the accuracy. She's understood everything I've thrown at her. It was easy to set up, we'll see how much it gets used outside of, "Alexa, what's the weather" and "Alexa, play <whatever music>".

No idea. You can tell it to search specific sites like Wikipedia.

Now connect a Harmony remote so you can do shit like "Alexa, turn on Netflix". You can even get her to tune in TV channels.

Maybe if we get a Dot as well and put it in the basement next to the TV. I currently don't have any home automation stuff to drive either, but it's on the list - Nest, front door lock, maybe some lights.
